Hues and Cues

In Hues and Cues, you can test your understanding of colors and compare it with how your loved ones perceive them! This unique association game features a board with 480 shades. In each round, you must guide the other participants to one of them using very limited hints. Without using color names, of course!

What is it about?

• In each round, one player draws a card from the deck. It shows four colors and their locations on the board. Secretly, the player chooses one of the colors.
  After deliberating, the player gives the others a one-word clue to guide them to the correct square. They cannot use color names, although abstract terms like "maroon" or "lavender" are acceptable.
  The other participants take turns placing one of their pawns on the square of the color they believe they want.
• Once everyone has placed their pawns, the player can give an additional, two-word clue that clarifies the intended shade. The player cannot refer to the placement of the pieces (e.g., using terms like "lighter" or "darker"); they must use a completely new association. If a player is satisfied with their guesses, they can skip this step or provide a second one-word clue. The remaining players then place one piece back on the board.
• To determine the scoring, we use a special frame, which we place on the board. It divides nine squares; we arrange it so that the color drawn by the player is in the center. The player whose piece is on this square scores 3 points, while the others whose pieces are inside the frame score 2 points each. An additional point is awarded if our piece touches the frame from the outside. Of course, the points for both pieces are added together.
• The clue giver also scores points – 1 point for each piece inside the frame.
• If there are 3 to 6 players, the game ends after each player has been the clue giver twice. If 7 or more players are playing, each player can only give hints once. The player who accumulates the most points during this time wins!
